The number of celebrities willing to admit their allegiance to the Church of Scientology has dwindled in recent years, thanks to almost a decade of atrocious press. The last big-name convert was actress Katie Holmes, who began practicing Scientology shortly after she began dating Church stalwart Tom Cruise in 2005. But if the National Enquirer is to be believed, Scientology may soon welcome a very famous face to its ranks: Lindsay Lohan.

Lindsay has scored a part in the upcoming film Gotti: Three Generations alongside John Travolta and Kelly Preston, two of the most ardent and vocal Scientologists. According to the Enquirer, Travolta had a big hand in getting Lohan on board:
Even though producers were hesitant to hire Lindsay because of her troubled past, Travolta assured them he'd take her under his wing. John introduced Lindsay to one of the church's top counselors and—even though she's been cast in a new role and won't play the star's daughter in the flick—she's assured him she'll still attend the series of induction classes that will make her a Scientologist.
As weird as it may seem, Scientology might actually be a good choice for someone like Lindsay, who has battled substance abuse problems for years: Former cocaine addict Kirstie Alley famously said that with one auditing session, she completely lost the urge to use drugs forever. What's more, Lohan could use the industry connections to rebuild her shattered career, and she would probably benefit from being followed around by handlers all the time.
