They live in the period between World War II and the Korean conflict.
In a small town in Texas, the two pass their time the best way they know how. Jacey, Duane's girlfriend, is the popular girl in school. Jacey comes from a rich family and thus a good catch. Anarene craves to live in big cities. The boys are torn between a future somewhere out of their dull town and away from the usual people they meet. As their highschool graduation nears, the two learn a lot about life. They begin to learn more about love, loneliness, and jealousy, and other life developed feelings.
