In 1978, a teenage girl fought to play on the boys’ varsity soccer team after her brother, a soccer champion, died. In the process, she wins the right for girls everywhere to play the sport.
Gracie Bowen is very fond of soccer, and she wants to join her father and three brothers in soccer practice, but she is discouraged by everyone, however her brother Johnny is the only one who stands on her side.
Gracie persists in changing everyone's beliefs in what she is capable of, and she fights to give women the opportunity to play competitive soccer.
A tragedy strikes and Gracie's brother, who has been her only supporter, passes away in a car accident, Gracie struggles with grief but decides to replace him in the soccer team, but her father does not believe she has the talent to play that sport, and her mother worries about her safety.
Feeling rejected and depressed, Gracie starts rebel, her school grades get worse, and she is caught in several wrongful situations, by then her father agrees to train and support her to play soccer, but the school board denies her of playing.
Eventually Gracie wins the fight against school board and gets to play soccer, proving the right of playing sports for women around the world.
