Rashi and Gopi are cousins. Gopi, a very sweet but submissive girl, is an orphan. She lives with her uncle and aunt (Rashi's parents).

The Uncle adores Gopi but the Aunt ill-treats her. Rashi on the other hand is smart and clever. A rich woman, Kokila Modi, comes to their house to choose Rashi as her son, Ahem's wife but instead chooses Gopi. This angers Rashi and the mother. But later on they find out that Ahem has a cousin, Jigar and the mother-daughter duo hatches a plan to get Rashi married to Jigar. Their plan is successful and on the day of Gopi and Ahem's wedding, Rashi and Jigar get married too. Ahem was already in love with another girl and thus doesnt accept Gopi as his wife. He hates her more when he comes to know that she is illiterate and slaps her too. Gopi decides to leave her in-laws house. Rashi and her mother who always wanted this tries to get Gopi out of Modi Bhawan but their plans are foiled by Kokila who knows that Gopi is a pure-hearted girl. Gopi always gets tricked into doing wrong by Rashi.
